Arkansas in the Fall

October is apparently a great Craft Show month! And Arkansas is apparently the mecca of Craft Shows. So my Big Sis and I had a roadtrip to Arkansas for a long weekend to visit with our good friend and craft show extraordinaire, and go craft show shoppin!

Driving through Arkansas, we drove passed the most beautiful scenery! The trees were burnt oranges, golden yellows, and bright reds! The views were breathtaking, and who would've thought? I don't normally think of Arkansas as "beautiful" but it was!

On the way to one of the shows, we drove over this lake, and it was stunning with houses on the cliff and miles of water and I'm not even an outdoorsy person!

The War Eagle craft show was like being on the set of "Sweet Home Alabama." And it was huge! They estimated 180,000 ppl over the weekend. With friendly people, funnel cakes, and super cute holiday crafts, I was in heaven!

In the kitchen

The beginning of something beautiful!!!
You mix all this goodness together...
It turns into this mess...
You bake the bread for a little while
Sprinkle with powdered sugar, and roll it up!
Unroll after cool, smear filling, reroll = Ta da!!!
And theoretically it ends up looking like this!
Unfortunately my first go at it fell apart...
But doesn't this look good?

In the mood

[1993] . . . . . . . . [1989] . . . . . . . . [1997] . . . . . . . . [2005]

You should watch these! I own all but Teen Witch, and while searching for it on the web, I discovered Ashley Tisdale is in the works for a remake? Bummer... she's going to ruin it. There are certain cheesy movies, that are only appropriate for the 80's. Can't Buy Me Love, good example. When Nick Cannon redid it, it was shameful.
I am going to sit down this week and watch these! Starting with Teen Witch (thank you Netflix) I'm making popcorn right now and wishing I had a hot pink tutu...
I found some holiday treats to spice up my house
Morning coffee with a splash of Pumpkin Spice CoffeeMate
Freshen the house with Febreeze Pumpkin Harvst
Put a Pumpkin Roll bar in your Scentsy Pot!
The background paper is Rusty Pickle's "costume party" collection

Little touches of October all over my house

An aged "Book of Spells" trick-or-treat box from Hallmark I bought one year. When you open it, it makes spooky noises
<-- This, I think, is actually pretty cool. I got it while on vacation overseas last year. This guy had a table in the middle of a busy market with just pliers and a large spool of wire, and he would whip up the coolest things, just twisting and bending the wire to make intricate little figures. It was all one piece of wire, never cut, just wrapped continuously til it was done. Everything was precise. I thought the Witch was quirky, and I like quirky. He had this amazing grand piano, with all the insides wired. I wonder if I could find him again? Hmm... I'll have to go stalking next time I'm there!

October already?

Sooo September just flew by! And hollow's eve is on its way... I've been meaning to post pictures of projects I've got going on, but the days have just disappeared! I am definitely getting *excited* about Halloween! Who doesn't love costumes, candy, and haunted houses? Everyone's a kid, even for just the month. I have an October tradition of a halloween-esk movie marathon including all the movies I own or must see that happen to be Halloween-related, costumey, or have even an inkling of imagination... even if it is a far stretch. Funny thing is My list doesn't include the scary flicks :) I usually try to watch a few a week thru out the month, see if I can catch any on tv, and you should watch these movies too because they're great!
On my list this year:
1. Hocus Pocus! - I love this! It's always on when the trick-or-treaters are going around.
2. Casper
3. Practical Magic - This is one of my favorites, I watch it all the time anyway
4. Bewitched - I just love Nicole Kidman and she's adorable in this
5. It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
6. Edward Scissorhands
7. Hook - " Bangorang!!! "
8. The Harry Potter series
9. Beetlejuice
10. Phantom of the Opera - Realized recently that the Phantom is Gerard Butler
11. Corpse Bride
12. Sweeney Todd
13. And of course! Any excuse to watch Twilight!!! - I watch this all the time, but at least in October I can claim it's a Halloween thing!
***And I thought I could leave it at 13, alas there is one more movie I'll add because I'm such a fan of 80's movies: Teen Witch. If you have Netflicks, or patience to watch it on youtube, its cute.

13 Days of Halloween!
Advent Calendar

It's made of toilet paper
rolls, scrap paper, lots of
different ribbons, tissue
paper, and the new
Thickers puffy stickers
for numbers.
You can stuff little goodies
inside the scrolls like toys
or candy, and wrap them
up in the tissue, so kids
(or myself!) have a little
treat everyday :)

I love the spiderweb
paper and the mini
skull and crossbones.
I later added a few
sporatic dates on every
3 scrolls or so for a
quick reference to
the calendar days
(Oct 19-31) for when
the "13 days til" was.

I love
advent calendars period, but I loved the idea of this wall hanging. I've got my Christmas one already made!-- which is where I used the idea in the first place (and I had more fun with the Christmas papers) but I got to thinking it could be used for halloween and even birthdays! So I started saving TP rolls, and paper towel rolls, and begging several friends to save them for me as well (thank you!) and some how accumulated over 77 rolls. But hey! It's recycling at its finest!
